Your skincare regimen should be tailored to your specific skin type, and each one is different from the next. That’s why one person’s skincare routine can differ greatly from another’s, even if they both have the same skin concerns or conditions. Take, for example, my own skincare regimen. I wash my face with a cleanser in the morning and at night and apply moisturizer before bed every night to keep my skin hydrated and reduce signs of aging .
Firstly Know Your Skin Type
The first step to creating a skincare regimen is knowing what type of skin you have. Even within these categories, there’s room for variation and interpretation, but taking stock of your skin type is an excellent place to start. There are five common classifications: normal, oily, combination (both dry and oily), dry and sensitive.

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity. This allows wrinkles to appear and makes our skin appear dull and discolored. To preserve young-looking skin, it’s important to moisturize regularly. Moisturizing products can penetrate your outer layer of dead skin cells to infuse moisture into your deeper layers where it does you most good.
Always Wear Sunscreen
Sunscreen is an essential part of a good skincare regimen. The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your skin and cause wrinkles, freckles, blotches, and cancer. Wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 every day to avoid these effects; look for one that has been approved by the Skin Cancer Foundation as well.
Serums contain concentrated amounts of active ingredients and deliver them deeper into your skin, allowing you to reap more benefits from them. Use serum after cleansing, toning, and exfoliating but before applying moisturizer or lotion.

Applying face oil isn’t an absolute necessity, but it can be beneficial if your skin type is dry or you don’t like to wear makeup. Face oils hydrate your skin and create an even, reflective surface for makeup. They’re also good for sensitive skin because they contain fewer harsh chemicals than traditional moisturizers.
Make sure to get some shut-eye. Experts recommend seven hours per night, and it’s important to stay on track even on weekends. Use your sleep mask for deeper relaxation, especially if you have trouble falling asleep. It can help block out light and reduce stimulation from electronic devices that emit melatonin-suppressing blue light or late-night TV watching. You’ll wake up feeling more refreshed, which will help you start your morning with a healthy breakfast instead of coffee and toast.
